“The International Criminal Court announced Thursday that former Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is fit to stand trial in The Hague, the Netherlands. Duterte is facing charges for his war on drugs during his presidency, from 2016 to 2022, in which tens of thousands of small-time drug dealers were executed. The ICC’s case includes killings from Nov. 1, 2011, when Duterte was the mayor of Davao, until March 2019, when he pulled his country from ICC membership. On Sept. 16, he appeared at the ICC for a status hearing to verify his health. Duterte’s lawyers have said his health is fading and he would be unfit. The trial is set to begin Nov. 30.” (10/08/26)
