“President Javier Milei pledged that Argentina’s new Congress would be the most reformist in its history, following his party’s decisive win in legislative elections …. The vote came under global scrutiny after President Donald Trump tied a financial bailout for Argentina to Milei’s performance in the polls. Milei, a close ideological ally of Trump, was elected in 2023 with similar populist messaging, promising to slash Argentina’s bureaucracy, tamp down runaway inflation and take on its political elite. With more than 98 percent of ballots counted, Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party had won more than 40 percent of votes for the lower house compared with slightly over 24 percent for Fuerza Patria, the main opposition. His party also won more than 42 percent of votes for the senate, while Fuerza Patria won about 23 percent.” (10/26/25)
