Fixing Academia: Marketing Its Real Purpose

“The core of a liberal education is training people to think clearly and analytically so they can consider and discuss issues in unbiased ways. That is the ‘learning’ we are most concerned with. We are not concerned with simply having students learn facts of history, math, or science. These things matter, but are not the big intended gains. They are intended — but are also a means to helping students gain the critical thinking analytic skills that are so much more important. Unfortunately, many colleges and universities primarily market themselves as helping students (merely) become career ready.” (09/24/25)
