“A California man is in federal custody after being accused of scamming people he met on dating apps out of $2 million, according to the Central District of California U.S. Attorney’s Office. … The suspect is accused of using popular dating apps such as Tinder, Hinge and Bumble to find his targets …. the suspect would lie about his career and financial status, telling the app users that he worked as a successful financial manager and had purchased multiple properties. The suspect would then allegedly offer to invest their money. The app users thought they would be able to get regular returns or withdraw their money, but the suspect allegedly used the funds for his own means, including spending $40,000 on a Lexus in 2023.” (07/25/25)
