“Mahmoud Khalil, the pro-Palestinian activist held in immigration detention for more than three months by the Trump administration, was released from custody Friday night, according to one of his lawyers, after a federal judge ordered him set free. During a court hearing earlier in the day, U.S. District Judge Michael Farbiarz determined that Khalil isn’t a flight risk or a danger to the community. Fabiarz lightly rebuked the government, calling its effort to keep Khalil in jail ‘highly, highly unusual.’ Khalil’s release will allow him to return to New York to be reunited with his wife and newborn baby, who was born during his detention as the Trump administration attempted to deport him on foreign policy grounds.” (06/20/25)
