“To understand how America might escape from the clutches of oligarchy, it is worth reaching back through history, to see how the people have pushed back against the elites to achieve reform. They happened in Britain in the 1830s and America in the 1930s, struggles against the forces of reaction that ultimately resulted in the redistribution of power away from the oligarchy and towards the people. They were successful because they capitalized on fears within the ruling class that the system might fall apart and take them down with it. As a result, they chose to accept reform to maintain their position. The anger is there. The question is when it will reach the point that the political class is scared enough to do something about it.” (06/04/25)
