“President Trump has caused controversy with his broad use of executive orders. He is certainly not the first president to use them. Of 47 presidential administrations, 46 have used an executive order. … But the scale and scope of Trump’s use of executive orders give us pause to ask about their place in the American constitutional system. Indeed, since taking office for his second term, Trump has already signed more than 140 executive orders, more than any other president in his first 100 days. These orders have addressed immigration, education, climate change, international trade, healthcare, DEI, federal agency restructuring, and even TikTok. Trump’s executive orders are the culmination of a long process of the expansion of executive authority.” (05/28/25)
