“There’s no sugarcoating it: Donald Trump and his MAGA movement won a convincing victory on election night, and the liberal coalition opposing Trump suffered a setback. But what makes such a result bearable is the certainty that there will be another election in four years. The architecture of liberal democracy means that it is possible to limit the longevity of regressive movements. Trumpism need not be the U.S.’s permanent fate. It can’t be if this nation is to remain true to who it is.” (11/09/24)
