“The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that Virginia can implement a program to strip potential non-citizens from the voter rolls in advance of next week’s presidential election, halting a lower court order that would have restored about 1,600 voter registrations canceled as part of the clean-up. … In a pair of lawsuits challenging the program, the Justice Department and civil rights groups argued that Virginia’s purge violated the “quiet period” of the National Voter Registration Act, a three-decade-old federal law prohibiting states from ‘systematically’ removing voters from the rolls during the 90 days before a federal election.” (10/30/24)
