“Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced Tuesday that the province will impose a 50 per cent reciprocal fee on American alcohol products starting Sept. 8, responding to escalating trade tensions. The decision follows the United States recently implementing a 50 per cent tariff on a range of Canadian alcohol products, forcing provinces to pursue retaliatory measures protecting local industries. Federal authorities also introduced retaliatory levies on $27.6 billion worth of imports from the U.S., aiming to support the national economy amid the ongoing trade dispute. Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew praised Canada’s counter-tariffs on Tuesday, stating, ‘I’m proud of our country right now,’ while urging citizens to support local businesses through the ‘Buy Canadian’ initiative.” (08/27/26)
