“A professor at California State University Channel Islands was taken into federal custody during a protest at a cannabis farm in Camarillo last week, sparking public outcry and conflicting accounts from advocates and federal officials. On Friday, the California Faculty Association sounded the alarm on social media, reporting that 37-year-old Jonathan Anthony Caravello was ‘kidnapped by unidentified ICE agents’ at 2:33 p.m. Thursday during a community protest at Las Posas and Laguna roads. Witnesses at the scene said Caravello was tackled by federal agents after attempting to help a disabled bystander during the chaos, the Coyote Chronicle reported. According to multiple accounts, officers deployed tear gas into a crowd of demonstrators, with one canister landing near a protest observer in a wheelchair.
