The Rise of Modern Leftism [sic], part four

“As noted in my previous articles, ‘Progress’ became a major philosophical movement in the 19th and 20th centuries, and is still with us today, with a major caveat that we will eventually note. Charles Darwin, being a member of the most favored class in the most favored nation of the world, was a devout believer in ‘progress’; it was the world he grew up in, and he was a product of it. ‘Progressive’ ideology underlay his theory of evolution. Karl Marx, who believed Darwin’s theory was spot on and even wanted to dedicate one volume of his book ‘Capital’ to Darwin, also acknowledged the ‘progressive’ idea. ‘Progress’ was virtually unchallenged in intellectual circles in the 19th and early 20th centuries, spawning even a ‘Progressive Party’ in America. Leftists, of course, still like to call themselves ‘progressives’.” (01/25/25)
