“At 12:01 p.m. Eastern time Monday, Donald Trump pledged to preserve, protect, and violate the Constitution of the United States. So help us, God. The most immediate violation, of course, is the executive order he is issuing today that suspends birthright citizenship, so that the immigration cops (abetted by the Army and local police, thanks to a Trump order resurrecting the Alien Enemies Act of 1798) can deport the American-born children of undocumented immigrants. Amendment 14, Section 1 of the Constitution reads, ‘All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.'” (01/20/25)
