“A Northern California man was sentenced last month to two years in prison after breaking into a postal truck and stealing 700 pieces of mail, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday. Under a plea agreement, the Sacramento man admitted to breaking into a U.S. Postal Service mail truck in Castro Valley on Dec. 30, 2022, after approaching the truck in a stolen Hyundai. The man, 35, said he intentionally broke the lock of the mail truck parked on Redwood Road near Seven Hills Road to steal the mail, according to the plea agreement. The mail carrier said he heard a gunshot and saw the man and his co-defendant steal the mail from the truck, the DOJ release stated. In the plea document, the man said he and his co-defendant fled the scene after stealing the mail, driving north on Redwood Road.” (06/12/24)
