“New jobless claims fell for a sixth straight week — the longest stretch of declines since July 2022. The initial filings for unemployment benefits decreased by 4,000 to 217,000 last week, the U.S. Labor Department reported Thursday. But recurring claims, a proxy for the number of unemployed people, remained at the highest levels since 2021. So, while the new claims suggest employers are still retaining workers, continuing applications show that unemployed Americans are having difficulty finding their next job.” (07/24/25)
