“A man suspected of taking part in a planned robbery at a business on the Third Street Promenade was shot and killed Sunday night after allegedly attacking the store’s owner with a chemical irritant, police said. … According to a preliminary investigation, the store owner had agreed to meet a known associate for a private, after-hours sale. During the meeting, a second man — allegedly conspiring with the associate — entered the closed business and sprayed the owner with a chemical irritant. In response, the owner, who police said legally possessed a firearm, shot the intruder. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The associate, identified as Karen Melikyan, 41, of Los Angeles, was arrested at the scene. He has been charged with homicide, armed robbery, and conspiracy, police said.” (05/19/25)
