US DOJ weighs suggesting Google breakup as “remedy” to search “monopoly”

Source: Axios

“The Department of Justice is weighing proposing sanctions against Google that could include a breakup of the tech giant following a landmark case that found the company had illegally abused its [non-existent] search monopoly. … The case stems from a lawsuit first filed against Google in 2020 that alleged the company had illegal dominance in online search, basing their case mostly on the contracts between Google and Apple’s Safari and Mozilla’s Firefox, worth billions.” [editor’s note: Google has numerous competetitors, unlike real monopolies such as DOJ – TLK] (10/09/24)
