Price for troubled downtown San Francisco property slashed by millions of dollars

“The price for a beleaguered 82-room hotel in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District has been slashed from $21 million to $11 million, a new Redfin listing shows. The graffitied property, which is ‘closed and in need of renovations,’ according to the listing, is at 790 Ellis St. — and is still home to people who may be squatting in the building, as previously reported. When asked about the hotel’s residents, real estate broker Jeff Appenrodt told SFGATE over the phone that there are still a ‘couple long-term tenants’ in the building and that the buyer may be responsible for relocating them. However, there have been efforts to find alternative housing options for them, he said. It’s also possible that ‘the seller will have to deal with it prior to closing,’ though details are still unclear. The hotel, which shuttered in 2023, had a poor reputation long before its official closure, reviews show.” (10/06/24)
