CA: Wealthy Bay Area town mulls ban on private pickleball courts

“A pickleball backlash is brewing in the wealthy Marin County town of Ross. At a Sept. 12 meeting, the town’s six-person council mulled the possibility of adopting restrictions on private courts. Though the council tabled further action to its October meeting, members generally agreed that the sound from pickleball courts can be annoying. ‘What I’m hearing from all of you is, ‘Well, pickleball noise is annoying,’ nobody is going to disagree,’ Councilmember Mathew Salter said. ‘It’s loud, it’s a problem, people don’t like it, it’s a noise problem, but how to regulate that noise is a very difficult task and I honestly don’t think any of us can figure this out. I actually think that this is why there are so few examples of very good policy out there.’ Pickleball’s meteoric ascension to America’s fastest-growing sport has resulted in a commensurate growth of detractors who are mainly concerned with noise.” (09/19/24)
