“A woman visiting Yellowstone National Park reportedly suffered second- and third-degree burns after wandering off-trail in a thermal area on Monday, park officials announced. The unidentified woman, 60, from New Hampshire, burned her leg near the Mallard Lake Trailhead at Old Faithful, one of the most revered and visited geysers in the park, a Sept. 18 release from the National Park Service said. While traversing the area, she ‘broke through a thin crust over scalding water,’ leading to severe burns that required her to go to the hospital. After receiving assessment at a park medical facility, she was taken by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for more treatment, the release continued. Yellowstone, which is famously home to more than 10,000 natural hydrothermal features, has the greatest concentration of geysers, mudpots, hot springs and steam vents in the world, according to the Park Service.” (09/19/24)
