VA: Virginia Beach School Board votes down effort to make religious headgear optional next fall

Source: Virginian-Pilot

“The Virginia Beach School Board voted down an effort to make mask-wearing optional next fall. The decision doesn’t mean masks will be required, just that it’s still up in the air. Board member Laura Hughes had introduced a resolution in June that would have made masks optional absent any state requirements. The board deferred any decisions until July with hopes that the state’s plans would be known by then, but they’re still unknown. Administrators said they are developing plans for the fall and will present a recommendation in August that takes into account any state requirements or guidance, as well as the advice of local health officials, the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics. A state health order is in effect through Sunday requiring masks in instructional settings.” (07/21/21)
