VA: Republicans push for “Parental Advisory Warning” labels on school library books

Source: ABC 7 News

“Some Virginia Republican lawmakers are pushing for new state laws that would require Virginia schools to put parental advisory warning stickers on the cover of school library books. Stacy Langton and other parents have attempted to ban ‘Gender Queer’ from Fairfax County Public Schools libraries. ‘There are probably over a dozen illustrations that are incredibly X rated, incredibly pornographic. It’s not even borderline,’ Langton told 7News on Monday. FCPS decided to keep the books on the shelves. Following that decision, one parent launched a lawsuit to prevent the book — and others like it — from being available in Virginia schools. But the lawsuit was dismissed last week by a Virginia Beach Circuit Court judge. … Now GOP lawmakers want to change state law to place parental advisory warning stickers on the cover of school library books.” (09/05/22)
