“The number of Americans filing first-time claims for unemployment benefits rose slightly to 373,000 last week, the Labor Department reported on Thursday. The figure was an increase of 2,000 from the prior week’s revised level. The four-week moving average was 394,500, a decrease of 250 from the previous week’s revised average and the lowest level since March 14, 2020, when it was 225,500. The labor market has been recovering this year from the depths it plumbed last year during the [political mandates and panic cultivated over the] coronavirus pandemic. Some 850,000 jobs were added in June as industries such as leisure and hospitality rebound.” (07/08/21)
