“With the omicron variant spreading, testing sites jammed and health care workers weary, Florida’s surgeon general said he will release testing guidelines by Wednesday that will urge people without symptoms to refrain from getting swabbed. Dr. Joseph Ladapo, Florida’s surgeon general, said during a news briefing Monday that he wants to unwind the testing psychology that federal leaders have created: His new guidelines will discourage testing for those at low-risk, such as children, and prioritize those at higher risk, such as the elderly. ‘This doesn’t restrict access to testing, but reduces the use of low-value testing and prioritizes high-value testing,’ he said.” (01/04/22)
