“A federal judge has given final approval of a $626 million settlement for people affected by the Flint water crisis, according to court documents filed Wednesday. US District Judge Judith E. Levy wrote in her order the settlement is a ‘remarkable achievement for many reasons’ and said it ‘sets forth a comprehensive compensation program and timeline that is consistent for every qualifying participant.’ A[n] order regarding payment of attorneys’ fees will be issued separately, Levy wrote. … The settlement will establish a court-monitored victims compensation fund that will provide direct payments to Flint residents — with nearly 80% of the money going to those who were younger than 18 at the time of the crisis, according to the terms of the settlement. Minors who were 6 years old or younger will receive the biggest share.” (11/11/21)
