“Igor Danchenko, a key source for information in the infamous Steele dossier, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to five counts of making false statements to the FBI. Danchenko, a 43-year-old Russian citizen living in Virginia, submitted his plea before Senior US District Judge Anthony Trenga in Alexandria federal court. He was arrested Nov. 4 after he was indicted as part of special counsel John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the FBI probe of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Danchenko has been accused of lying to federal authorities about the sources for information he provided to former British spy Christopher Steele, who put together the now-discredited report. Dancheko was ordered to remain free on bond and is scheduled to appear for trial on April 18, 2022. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison on each count.” (11/10/21)
