IL: Retired Chicago firefighter, 77, fatally shoots assailant, police say

“A retired Chicago Fire Department captain fatally shot a man who attempted to rob him Saturday, authorities said. … According to police, the victim was standing in the open garage of a home in the Chicago neighborhood of Burnside when a vehicle pulled up in the alley, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The man demanded the victim’s belongings, according to Chicago police and Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford. The victim then shot the would-be robber, fatally striking him in the head and chest, WLS-TV reported.” (11/07/21)
