“This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of Marx, Hayek, and Utopia and Ayn Rand: The Russian Radical — the first two books of my ‘Dialectics and Liberty Trilogy.’ Indeed, it was thirty years ago this week that I received advance copies of both books. This year also marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the publication of the trilogy’s finale: Total Freedom: Toward a Dialectical Libertarianism. So, while I’m in a celebratory mood, I’m also of the conviction that this anniversary speaks not to a past achievement but to the present moment — and to the future of any movement dedicated to the creation and sustenance of a free society. I’m marking these anniversaries by summarizing each of these books and reflecting on their contributions to the scholarly literature. I also consider their implications — and what I might have done differently, if the books were published today.” (06/09/25)
