“Iran has placed a firm red line around its right to enrich uranium for civilian nuclear purposes for two main reasons. The first is that the U.S. demand to fully dismantle Iran’s nuclear program is outside the framework of international law. … Article IV of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, of which Iran is a signatory, guarantees that ‘Nothing in this Treaty shall be interpreted as affecting the inalienable right of all the Parties to the Treaty to develop research, production and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes without discrimination and in conformity with Articles I and II of this Treaty.’ … The second reason is that, historically, Iran has been made vulnerable by agreeing to limits on its domestic enrichment.” (06/06/25)
