“A South Carolina man was [killed] by firing squad Friday — the first [scheduled killing by state employees] of its kind in the U.S. since 2010 and just the fourth firing squad [killing] since the death penalty resumed in this country 49 years ago. Brad Sigmon, 67, was [killed] at 6:05 p.m. Friday, and pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections. He had been strapped into a chair with a target placed over his heart, South Carolina authorities said Friday evening. Sigmon had a hood placed over his head, and three Corrections Department volunteers armed with rifles fired bullets designed to shatter on impact.” (03/07/25)
