TN: Judge halts Lee’s opt-out order, allowing Shelby County regime to require religious headgear in schools

Source: Memphis Commercial Appeal

“A federal judge issued an order late Friday that temporarily blocks Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s school mask opt-out order until September 17. That means that in Shelby County, children must wear masks in school. The 18-page order by U.S. District Court Judge Sheryl H. Lipman says the order applies to Shelby County only. Bryce Ashby, a lawyer for the families that filed the suit on behalf of their children with disabilities, said he believes the order will apply to all schools in the county. That means the Shelby County Schools, the municipal school districts in Arlington, Bartlett, Collierville, Germantown, Lakeland and Millington, as well as private schools and religious schools.” (09/30/21)
