“Donald Trump has signalled that he will vote in favour of legalising marijuana for personal use in his home state of Florida, ahead of a ballot on the issue in November. The Republican presidential nominee wrote on his Truth Social platform that voters are highly likely to approve the measure ‘whether people like it or not’ and therefore ‘it should be done correctly.’ The former US president’s stance puts him at odds with other senior Republican figures, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has argued that legalising recreational cannabis use would ‘be bad for quality of life.’ Medicinal marijuana was made legal in Florida in 2016. Cannabis for both personal and medical use is legal in 24 US states, according to the Pew Research Centre. A further 14 states have legalised medical marijuana.” (09/01/24)
