CA: Oakland mayor says FBI raid wouldn’t have happened if she “was rich”

“Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, whose home was raided by the FBI last week, has already swapped lawyers. ‘I appreciate Tony Brass for providing me with initial legal guidance,’ the mayor said in an emailed statement to SFGATE. ‘He helped me better understand the investigation and my legal options. Over the weekend, I obtained new legal counsel and thanked Mr. Brass for his counsel. I will share the name of my new counsel once agreements are finalized.’ Brass was hired Friday, the day after the raid. He did not immediately reply to an SFGATE request for comment regarding the mayor’s statement. However, he told the San Francisco Standard that he quit Monday after seeing the mayor’s press conference on TV.” (06/26/24)
