“Police are searching for a suspect after 73 dogs were rescued from three Turlock homes last Thursday, officials said. Turlock detectives searched three properties in the 400 block of South First Street for an animal cruelty and possible dogfighting investigation. Officials said the investigation into the residences began in early March after Turlock Animal Services expressed concerns based on prior cases in the area. The police department said approximately 10 dogs were tethered in the yards, which is illegal in California. Between all three properties, 73 dogs were found and rescued. Some of the dogs are also pregnant and due to deliver soon. Officials said the conditions the dogs were found in were deplorable and inhumane. Detectives identified 46-year-old Jorge Ayala as the suspect in the investigation. Police do not know his whereabouts.” (04/03/24)
