The Generations We Piled with Debt Are Here — and Rightly Disturbed

“On April 24, 1985, President Ronald Reagan broadcast a live address to the nation on a topic he believed to be of the utmost importance: the need to save future generations from the consequences of excessive government overspending. … In the nearly 40 years since the president’s Oval Office speech, neither the overspending problem he warned about nor the conservative plea to spare coming generations from its fiscal consequences has changed. But precisely because the country has become so accustomed to both, an important demographic shift has gone largely unappreciated. As the inevitable budgetary reckoning has gotten closer, those once-distant descendants we condemned to suffer for our profligacy are not so distant anymore.” (04/02/24)
