Taiwan: Regime seeks to rally support for bid to return to United Nations

“Taiwan is stepping up its long campaign to return to the United Nations amid hopes it is gaining more support despite intense hostility from mainland China. The United Nations will convene its annual general assembly on September 14 and the topic is expected to be discussed during its debate session later in the month. … Beijing, which was given the UN seat representing China in 1971, has vehemently opposed the island returning to the United Nations or joining international organisations that require statehood, insisting Taiwan is not qualified to do so as it is a Chinese territory. It has never renounced the use of force to reunify it with the mainland.” (09/02/21)
