“Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will attend an Arab League summit Friday in Saudi Arabia, his top diplomat said, a first in more than a decade of war and regional isolation. ‘He will come to attend this summit,’ Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad told Lebanon’s Al-Jadeed TV on Wednesday when asked about Assad’s attendance, speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Jeddah. This year’s summit will mark the readmittance of war-torn Syria into the 22-member league after a 12-year suspension.” (05/18/23)
